Fashion Inspiration in Movies

500 Days Of Summer, filmed in 2009 has a wonderful sense of fashion for right now. Since I live in Cedar Rapids Iowa, the fashion from this movie is just starting to come alive, it is a mixture of every other fashion that i will talk about in this blog. Taking fashions from especially the mid 1900's, this movie is a great show of today's fashion. If you don't know what to wear on a date tomorrow, pick up this movie.

Fashion from the 90's, finally some fashion i actually remember. Clueless, filmed in 1995, is all about fashion. Taking a fashion deprived girl and making her cute. Now the story line is not very original, but it is so full of fashion from the 90's. Knee-high sock for goodness sakes! mini skirts and flats. That's fashion from the 90's.

"What, you don't like rice? Tell me Michael, how could a billion Chinese people be wrong? "

If you lived in the 80's, of course you remember "The Corey's" In the movie The Lost Boys, filmed in 1987, it shows the typical rocker ensemble that was typical of the "Bad boys". Complete with dangling earrings and black combat boots, this movie is a great representation of fashion from the 80's.

"Are you guys like boyfriend-girlfriend? Steady dates? Lovers? Come on, sporto, level with me. Do you slip her the hot beef injection? "

The best movies from the 80's were filmed by John Hughes, the best one of all being The Breakfast Club. It was filmed in 1985, and looking at the fashion you can tell. Every fashion of every "clique" from the 80's is represented in this movie. Jean jackets, one leather glove, baggy t-shirts, Letterman jackets, you have it all. This is fashion in the 80's

"I'm a cross-dressing homosexual pacifist with a spot on my lung."

Across the universe, filmed in 2007, shows the fashions from the late 60's and early 70's. It's a great representation of what the "hippies" dressed like. So many colors and fabrics, if you're looking for inspiration from the late 60's, this is the movie to watch.

"I'll tell you one thing, Fred, darling... I'd marry you for your money in a minute. "

Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of the most famous movies known for fashion. Audrey Hepburn was a legend for fashion, After this movie "The little black dress" was a must for every girl, and still is today. With enlarged hats and gaudy jewelery, this movie belongs in fashion history. It was filmed in 1961.

"It doesn't matter if you win or lose, it's what you do with your dancin' shoes. "

Grease is very memorable for it's fashion, filmed in 1978, it shows all different kinds of fashion from the 50's, and the classic scene in the end when Sandy tells Danny she needs a man, what's not to love about this movie?

"Mmm-hmm. Most of the time I have all these thoughts bouncin' around in my head... but with a brush in my hand, the world just gets kinda quiet."

The Notebook, filmed in 2004, does a very good job of representing fashion from the 40's. You can see in the swimsuit picture that it is supposed to be conservative, yet she still wants to show of her figure. Add in the great big headbands and this really shows fashion of the 40's.

"Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend"

In the movie Moulin Rouge, filmed in 2001, was not affraid to do anything. The fashion in this movie is maybe over the top, but in a very good way, they used risks that not many others would use. It is a great interpritation of what the Moulin Rouge really would have been like.

"Let them Eat Cake"

Marie Antionette, filmed in 2006, should be known for it's fashion. This movie has over the top dresses and gowns, jewlery, accessories, hats, and hair. It is a great representation of what you can do with fashion from the early 1800s and how you can make it more modern.

Eva Herzigova

Some fashion news that people may be interested in, Eva Herzigova, a used-to-be-model born in Czechoslovakia, is making her second attempt at fashion designing. Around six years ago she made five collections of beachwear, but unfortunately she didn't have the management or financial back up that she needed to follow through with that project. "I had just become a mum with my little boy George, so being a model, mum and entrepreneur all at the same time was just too much," is what she said in the report that I read. And so this time she is going in with financial support from Laurent Milchior, who's family controls Etam, a British women's clothing retailer. They say that she will make a good fashion designer because she was a model and knows what women want to wear. Her line will be rather risque from what it sounds like. It was explained as "Brigitte Bardot inspired" and also explained as a take on "French romanticism". Eva herself said that "It's for a woman who is not afraid to show herself off". I chose to write about this story just becasue i think that it is kind of inspiring to know that there are people who keep trying and go for a second chance. Although she is well-known, it will be much easier for her to make this happen, but I admire her determination and I think that it is very important to have if you are going to start something like this. It's alot of work.

Education

After I graduate from High School I plan on going to Kirkwood for two years and getting in my required classes. After that I am thinking that I will move to either Chicago, Illinois, or Fort Worth, Texas. If I choose to go to Chicago I want to go to SAIC which is School of the Art Institute of Chicago. If i choose to go to Texas then I want to try and get into the Art Institute of Fort Worth. Both of these schools are the kind of schools where you look at fashion as an art and then try to just go with your Passion. I would really like going to one of these schools and they are my top two choices. I found out some of the types of classes that I will need to take, but basically it depends on what kinds of classes you want to take and what exactly you want to do. Obviously, for me, I would need to take some textile classes, and some sewing classes, probably a class about different fabrics, those kinds of classes. But the major thing for me is that I move out of Iowa. Iowa is not a place you should stay if you want to be a fashion designer, or do anything in Fashion. New York, Chicago, and Texas are the big fashion places. I would love to visit New York but not live there. I do love the fast paced environment but it would be too far away from my family and friends. If i move to Chicago it is only like 4 hours away from my dad, and if i move to Texas I have lots of family there, not to mention the warm weather. And that is my general plan for education.
